Scorched Sanguinity by TS Hawkins [featured during The Souls of Black Folk II: The New Jim Crow]

Join us for a special live taping of your favorite daily talk show A Bird’s Eye View, your source for all things fleek, fresh, and fashion forward. And what’s more fashionable these days than . . . social justice and mass incarceration! As we do with all the trends, we’ll be bringing you the latest from streetwear to spoken word, dance to divertissement (that’s games, viewers!) – and even a step-by-step guide on how to avoid being racially profiled in your day-to-day. Liberty and Justice don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into this time, but when do they?!
A multidisciplinary group of Philadelphia artists have been working in residency since Fall of 2015 to create new work inspired by Michelle Alexander’s award-winning book, The New Jim Crow. The book explores race-related issues specific to African-American males and mass incarceration in the United States. The resulting piece is a theatrical journey through the book using song, dance, poetry and more. FEATURING: Cara Blouin, LaNeshe Miller-White, Cheyenne Barboza, Danielle Cole, TS Hawkins, Tieshka Smith, Nandini Sikand, Charles Ellison, Karen Smith, Joshua Campbell, and Amelia Longo!

  4. Brilliant work, biting. URGENT. One of your very best. I read it 5x in a row and the rhythms and themes are banging, banging in my head like a kettle drum. Hit home.
